What happens if I am taken into custody?

If you have been charged and taken into the watch house, the police can decide to refuse or grant you bail. If you are refused bail by the police, they must take you before a court so that a magistrate or judge can then make a determination about bail. If you are charged on a Friday, this will likely mean that you spend the weekend in the watch house. It is highly advisable to obtain legal advice prior to applying for bail.
